Deadly fantasies review

May 9, 2016 in Work Books

Deadly fantasies by Miller was a quick read to discover who the murderer was even though the wife confessed to it. Will detective Kate be able to steer her colleagues away from the wife as the perpetrator? The same woman who counselled her. We are led on a merry chase to find who did it and the answer comes as a great surprise. Besides Kate’s relationship with her colleague and falling out with her best friend, we learn about Kate warts and all. A worthy opponent of the baddies.

The flame and the arrow review

May 9, 2016 in Work Books

The Flame and the Arrow by Cannaday is at times, a steamy expose of the two main characters, Annika and Talvi. Their world is full of magic but with Talvi’s family having to do all the work, not unlike at the troll’s house where the two fairies do the cooking, like the loaves and the fishes. It is a lengthy story but is filled with descriptive passages. There is plenty of conflict which carries one onto each segment. The second ending is quite clever and the finale is satisfying, leading into a sequel. An honest review from a free copy.

The Blotted line review

4.0 out of 5 stars Seven stories of emotions, April 27, 2016
This review is from: The Blotted Line (Paperback)
The Blotted Line by Ahmed is a collection of seven short stories detailing the people’s emotions in different countries. The first story involves Simi, Muni who is in an arranged marriage and Tim who is in pursuit of Muni. Charade is about three women who tell tall tales. Eye-opener concerns Riana who has a miscarriage. There are different points of view for each character. The Black Coat is set in Paris and deals with the obsession of an artist after finding a locket. Anomalous Duo concerns a boy and a girl of different religions. Will they get together? Melodies Passe about a grandchild and grandmother forced to sell the family home. Finally, Of Note is about an orphan and her pursuit by her father. A good mix.

Waterkill review

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventure galore, April 28, 2016
This review is from: Waterkill (Dave Henson Series) (Paperback)
Waterkill by Donovan is a great read, packed with adventures as the forces of evil try to overcome the Great Satan of America through water. Dave Henson is the hero and he doesn’t have all the kudos of a Seal. He’s presented as an ordinary man who finds himself in extraordinary situations. The kidnapping of his wife ups the ante and the reader is hoping she escapes. Will he stop his friend, now his enemy?
